Blackholing

Imagine a black hole. It literally sucks everything in sight into oblivion. Blackholing isn’t all that different. It’s a way of protecting you from unwanted content or traffic like advertisements that track you all around the web or when malicious hackers bombard you or your business with massive requests or denial of service attacks to your website or internet connection.

Blackholing works by redirecting network traffic or requests you’d like to discard or filter. It does this by sending all the traffic to a virtual interface called a null or null0 interface on your router that acts like a black hole. Any traffic that sent to it doesn’t go anywhere and is dropped.
